We ask everyone the same question about four months after pickup: what changed, and what did not. These are the answers, lightly trimmed for length.
The gapping was the thing. I had a 4 iron and a 5 wood that went the same distance and a hole between 130 and 150 that I had been faking for years. Fixing that was not glamorous and it took four shots off my average round.

Three of my old irons were more than a degree flat and my 7 was eight grams heavier than my 8. I had played them four years. Nobody at the store I bought them from had ever put a gauge on them.

What I noticed was not distance, it was that the middle of the set stopped surprising me. The 8 iron used to be the one that occasionally flew. It does not do that anymore and I did not change anything about my swing.

They told me not to buy a driver. I needed a shorter shaft in the one I owned and a grip that did not fight my left hand. That was ninety dollars instead of six hundred, and I have told about ten people that story since.

My putter was two inches too long and I had been squatting over it for a decade. Cutting it and adding head mass cost less than a sleeve of balls per stroke saved. Slightly annoying to learn that late.

The sheet is the part I did not expect. I keep it in the bag. A club got bent in a cart accident last summer, I handed them the sheet, and it went back exactly where it started without any guessing.

Rebuilt to the original sheet in one day
Not every session lands. Roughly one in fifteen follow-ups says something along the lines of "honestly I cannot tell the difference." When that comes back on a build we did, we bring the clubs in, re-measure against the sheet, and either find our error or admit the change was smaller than the golfer hoped for.
Two situations produce that answer most often. The first is a golfer whose miss is a motion problem that equipment was never going to solve. The second is a bag that was already close to right, where the honest gain from a rebuild is a couple of yards of dispersion and nothing you would feel. We try hard to spot the second case during the session and say so before anyone spends money, but we do not catch it every time.
