Do I need to be any good before a fitting is worth it?
No, and the reverse argument is more common than it should be. A beginner with clubs that are two inches too long and four degrees too upright is fighting the equipment while they are still learning the motion, which builds compensations that stick. What changes with skill level is what we measure against. A low handicap session chases half degrees. A first season session chases fit that lets a normal swing produce a normal result.
How long until I actually have the clubs?
Six to nine working days for a set through most of the year. In late May and June that stretches, sometimes to three weeks, because the bay and the bench compete for the same person. Single clubs and re-shafts run three to five days. Regrips are usually same day if you can leave them with us.
You test indoors in winter. Does that data mean anything outdoors?
The structural numbers do. Ball speed, spin, launch, strike location and the way a shaft loads are all reproducible indoors with a decent radar unit and premium balls. What indoors cannot give you is genuine carry into wind, or how a wedge behaves on wet Wisconsin turf. We are explicit on the sheet about which numbers are structural and which are conditional, and we do not quote you an indoor carry as if it were a course yardage.
Can you fit me if I want to keep the heads I already own?
Frequently the best outcome. Plenty of bags have perfectly good heads on shafts that are wrong, at lengths that are wrong, with grips two sizes off. Re-shafting and rebuilding what you own costs a fraction of new clubs and the tolerance work is identical. We will tell you honestly if a head is genuinely past its useful life, which for wedges is a real thing and for irons usually is not.
What does the as-built sheet actually cover?
Eleven measured fields per club, taken from the finished club after the epoxy has cured. Head model and serial, raw shaft length, tip trim, playing length, butt frequency, loft, lie, total mass, swing balance, tape wraps under the grip and installed tip weight. Plus the operator name and cure date. It is a record, not a certificate. Its whole value is that in three years somebody can put the club back exactly where it started.
Do you sell complete clubs off a rack?
No. There is no wall of stock here. Everything is built to a sheet after a session. That does mean you cannot walk out with a driver today, which is a genuine disadvantage if today is what you need. Two shops within twenty minutes carry rack stock and we will name them if that is the right answer for you.
My irons feel inconsistent. Is that a fitting problem or a swing problem?
Measure before you decide. A very common finding on a $65 tolerance audit is that two irons in the middle of the set are three or four grams apart in head mass and a point apart in swing balance. That is enough to make the same swing produce two different results, and no amount of practice fixes it. If the audit comes back clean and the inconsistency remains, then it is a motion question and we will say so.
How many balls will I hit?
Fewer than you expect. Around forty to sixty good strikes in a single club bench. We are not building a distance average, we are looking for the configuration that produces the tightest pattern when you swing normally. Fatigue destroys that data faster than anything else, so we stop when the pattern starts drifting rather than pushing for a round number.
Do you fit left handed golfers?
Yes, and without the usual wait. The shaft library is handedness neutral, and roughly a quarter of the head library is stocked left handed rather than ordered in. Renata runs most of the left handed sessions.
What if the clubs come back and I do not like them?
Bring them in and we open the sheet together. If the build is outside our stated tolerance window, we fix it at no charge, full stop. If the build matches the sheet and you still do not like the result, we will re-work length, balance or grip at labour cost only. Components already cut cannot be un-cut, and we will not pretend otherwise.
Is a launch monitor number worth anything on its own?
Only against a reference. A ball speed figure in isolation tells you nothing about whether a change helped. That is why every session starts with your current club, on the same unit, in the same session. Numbers only become useful once there are two of them to compare.
Do you work on junior clubs?
Yes, and we price it as a repair rather than a fitting because juniors outgrow specs on a schedule. Cutting down and rebalancing an existing set is usually the right call. Come back when there is a growth spurt and we will re-do it. A proper fitting session makes sense once growth has slowed, generally mid-teens.
One more thing worth saying out loud
A club fitting is not a magic act and the honest ceiling on what it can do is smaller than the industry implies. What it reliably delivers is consistency: the same swing producing a result you can predict, and a set where the club above and the club below behave like relatives. Distance sometimes follows. Sometimes it does not, and the session was still worth it.
